Occupational Therapy Terminology: A Helpful Guide for Parents and Students to Understand Those Often Used OT Words

Occupational Therapist spend many hours working with parents. Spending countless hours teaching them, in progress meetings/discussions, and in IEP meetings. Unfortunately, sometimes there can be difficulties in communication between OT's and parents (and in some cases teachers). This is mainly because of our specific OT terms and vocabulary. Because of our wordage, parents can often be found with a perplexed look on their faces during these meetings. At times they have no idea what the occupational therapist is talking about. This text was put together to remedy this confusion and create a bridge of better understanding between Occupational therapists, parents, students, and teachers. Moreover, it serves to show children in the act of their occupations....play, school, and other ADL's.
